Your AI can't search your iMessage.
OpenTrawl fixes this.

OpenTrawl is a macOS app and a command line tool. It builds you a small index of all the data in your apps (notes, messages, e-mails). You can search it, and so can your (local) AI.

Nothing leaves your machine, unless you want it to.

Available today: iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Notes, Contacts, Calendar.
Coming soon: Gmail, Twitter, Photos.

I took my real archive and told Claude to anonymise it by LARPing as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The data is real, the names aren't.

Private by design Your archives are just files on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, we don't know who you are. If you want to point a (local) AI at your archives, you're in control - not a company.

It just works Install the Mac app. It builds search indexes, updates them, and updates the app for you. No npm install hell, no MCP servers, no updates breaking everything.

Open source The code is on GitHub, MIT licensed. Take a look, see how it works. No secrets here.

Plugins - coming soon Want to search something that we haven't built yet? We'll share a skill for your coding agent - so you can write a plugin to search anything you like.

The macOS app is cool too. But the agent terminal is cooler.

We mostly made the app to manage the boring technical stuff (permissions, easy updates), so you can stay out of the terminal. That's about it. Claude made some cool animations though.
